Looks like a camshaft retainer for a SOHC 2.3 4-cylinder. Installs at the back of the head.
That makes sense. I owned a 79 Mustang back in my law school days. I guess it can go in the scrap bucket. Thanks.

Re: Free LED headlights for three lucky people.

Yet another mystery part thread

Found this in a box of misc Cougar/Ford bits. For the life of me I can't recall what it is. It has traces of dark Ford blue paint on it so Its likely an engine part of some sort. Anyone here recognize it?

Program a random number generator to come up with a random vin for each year. Whoever has a vin closest to it wins.

Re: How did that happen?

If I recall correctly, the spedometer drive gear is held in position on the output shaft by a springy-clip-thingy. If the clip is not inserted into the keyslot completely, it can pop out leaving the gear to spin freely on the shaft. It's possible that when you tightened the driven gear, the extra pr...

Re: Lost 2 cougars today

So sad to hear of your loss. I know they are just "things", but these old cars often represent years of family memories. Take care dealing with the adjusters- don't let them rush you into a settlement. Make sure ALL of your communications with the insurance co are in writing.
