Re: Need Setup Advice From Experienced Drag Racers

The Pertronix is basically just a solid state relay, an on off switch. It doesn't boost voltage or anything like that. Since we don't have the car to play with there is no way to tell what exactly went wrong. Here is an article that explains it pretty well FWIW. https://mgaguru.com/mgtech/ignition/i...

Re: Red GT-E - Mecum Indy - May 2018

And then there is the strange case of Dave Hannan's '68 Dearborn built Cougar. The dash VIN tag wasn't attached at all. It was actually just slid under the windshield rubber seal ON TOP of another VIN plate. No rivets, no screws no glue, nothing. The slipped in place VIN tag does match every other V...

Re: Need Setup Advice From Experienced Drag Racers

The problem you had was not the Pertronix. You had the coil polarity backwards. The center electrode sits in the middle of a high temp ceramic insulator. It is hard to picture but the spark should jump from the hot center to the cold side electrode. Reverse the polarity and you move the heat to the ...

Re: 68 R Code

I do something very similar, I use kerosene in a spray bottle to clean things up. I use compressed air to blow it all clean and dry. A think film may remain. Then lube the pivot points with light household oil. Then use compressed air again to blow out the excess. I learned this process from the watc...

Re: 1968 XR7 GT in Central California

This is a great start but it is going to need a lot of work to be driven again. I would venture about $5 to $6K tops right now. If there is rust it drops a few thousand, really bad rust under the roof, maybe more than that. Worst case, $2500.

Re: Dash wiring question

It sounds like you might have an XR7 dash that was stuck in a standard. If that is the case it will be a hodge podge because the harnesses are very different.

Re: Daily driver Eliminator - am I crazy?

Maybe I am getting old, but I like things like AC, bright headlights, even power windows, being able to cruise at 75 MPH, most of all, bullet proof reliability. As our Cougars get older I find that a little modernization goes along way to making all that happen. That means a lot of modifications. Th...
