Man I love it! My favorite colors too. I really think when I go to paint on my 69 its going white. It just makes all the detail stand out on a Cougar. Don if you would please send me a bunch of pictures as attachments to my email at oldwoods@hughes.net If you will please send shots of the motor, trunk and all angles especially one from the front with a little distance showing the rear fender swell over the tires. I love those lines. I dont want much do I ? Seriously though if you have some free time and feel like it I would appreciate the pictures. What a fine car. I can see why you tried to buy it the minute you saw it. With that milage its awesome. Was it well taken car of? I mean I see how it looks now but was it that way when you got it? Ill stop now, I could go on and on.

The car has very low milage as it was ordered by an east coast drag racer named Eddie Merkel and was raced regularly at English town and maple grove drag strips among others. At one time it was painted black to match the other team car a CJ Mustang Fastback. It was raced as both a 4 speed and an Auto as in the attached pics.

Don, I allmost wish I didnt see pictures of the black car. My first Cougar was a 68 XR7 302 4bbl 3 speed beige black vinyl saddle interior. I paid 800.00 dollars way back in 19hundredand72. I think I was making about 45 bucks a week part time still in high school. Anyhow I painted it white and scrounged parts and built my bad ass hot rod. I ended up with 11 inch bead to bead aluminum slots on the rear with N50s and Crager ss and g60s on the front. I really thought it looked Great! In my memories it looked great. Now you blew it! I do think it makes a differance though being super deep dish and on the rear vs the front. One thing special we did on that car though was I got a 69 shaker set up complete, and my dad cut the hood and rebent the trim so it fit perfect. I still remember people asking if it was factory it looked that good. The good old days.

I still had those rims when the barn burned. I had to run air shocks but I had the front end lifted with heavier springs so it was not jacked up. Plus I could ajust when the back seat was loaded which was all the time. I never did have a problem. Probally not enough power. My Dad really did do a perfect job on that scoop. It burned also. I WISH i still had that car.

I believe paint color has a lot to do with desirability. What is the most favored 68 GT-E color? My vote is Wellington Blue.

Interesting discussion. We need a more clearly defined set of rules. If you rank them simply by model it's pretty easy to put a list together. If you start including options like a 4-speed then it gets more complicated. Then how about cars that are production but have a special designation like Cougar 1 or introductory show units? I agree not to include he boss 429's, they were modified R codes.

The best GT-E color is cardinal red. It really isn't my favorite but it would be wrong of me to admit that now wouldn't it?

Maybe it should be desirability instead of value. For instance, I think if I could only have one Cougar, and it would be a driver, I think I would want a J code 4 speed G car with sunroof.
