All 68 AM/FM were stereo (the FM part). 8 tracks, I believe, were stereo.
67 AM/FM radios were not stereo.

All '68s came with the wiring in place for rear speakers and a fader (the strange triangular connector under the driver side dash). They were not offered from the factory but were a very popular dealer installed option.
If I remember correctly, the triangular connector is for the rear defogger. I don't recall seeing two triangular connectors under there but I also haven't owned a 68 for 14 years so my memory could be foggy on this.

You might be foggy, but I think you are correct on this.

Were they stereo in any configuration> Or not until 69? A fader was not stereo.

By using the balance control on the 8 track and the fader you can select 1 of 4 speakers. The fader is two mechanically connected potentiometers.

"Potentiometers"... That's a two bit word if I've ever heard one.

You are absolutely right! My bad. The '68 G that Propayne now owns had what looked like factory rear speaker wire in it and the rear window defog and I misremembered it. Sorry for the confusion!

Does the 69 have the same fader options as the 68 ? Does anyone have a picture of that knob ?

I have an odd knob connected to what looks like an old potentiometer on my car that isn't labeled and I'm wondering if it's a fader that was either dealer installed or installed by one of the previous owners. One of the POs hacked the dash apart a bit to fit a fancy stereo, but this knob and the solder and stuff seem to pre-date that modification. Maybe the "little old lady" who owned it for its first 30+ years was really into hi-fi despite the AM only radio option ;)

I'm not sure if the 67/68 rear seat fader was avalible with a mono AM radio, but 69 and 70 it was. My 70 CJ car "had" that option. Some of the wiring is still in the car, but hacked up.
