1969 Cougar GT with Mis-stamped VIN

Mis-stamped the VIN on the fender apron.
This car had the 351 Performance Group as noted by the "GT" on the body buck tag.
Was an M code 351-4V, but the fender aprons were both stamped with an "H".

Re: 1969 XR7 convertible

Actually, 1969 had the convertible switch hanging down just above the radio.

1970 XR7 has the convertible top switch in the XR7 switch panel.

Re: Carb stamping

As long as it is a good rebuildable core, it should work. Although, I do not know the linkage differences.
If it came off of your running engine, it should be OK. This carburetor is a 1.01", and the 1967's were 1.14", but some were 1.02". The 1.01", would have less CFM's though.

Yes, from a 1964 Fairlane / Comet 260-2V engine, with manual transmission. Has a 1.01" Venturi.

Re: S Code Candidate

No, the tall Mercury script valve covers never came on a Cougar.
Full sized Mercury and maybe intermediates 1965-66, I think.

I think that they do look good on the classic Cougars with FE engines though.

Re: seems cheap

Huh, I was thinking that it was kind of high priced.
