Re: plate on rear of 289/302 intake

Not a plate, flat pad on that intake, and others. My thoughts are that it is a carry over from when a road draft tube was used. Ford may have chosen to upgrade or modify existing intake manifold castings. On the C6OE-9425-A and C6OE-9425-B, 289-2V and 289-4V cast iron intakes, that flat pad was wher...

Re: Decode build tag

Found a mention of that DSO code in Kevin Marti's Cougar ... by the Numbers.
519219 - 24 cars for the Albuquerque / Colorado Springs market, March-April 1968. Some kind of regional promotion.

Re: Decode build tag

The factory mounted the tag upside down on your door.

Looks like a special paint 1968 standard.

Re: Time for a makeover

Water based paint has been used in the automotive industry for over 20 years. BMW, I think was using it in the 1990's. Steve S, one of the original curbsters :hand: , was a buddy of mine and worked for Dupont Paints. His job was as an instructor, to train painters in the safety and use of water base...

Re: 70 Front suspension

Harder.
16:1 box is 3-3/4 turns, lock to lock.
20:1 box is 4-5/8 turns.

16:1 steering box with manual steering was known as the 'quicker steering'. Would put a lot of stress on a tilt column, and probably lots of unplanned honking if you have a rim blow steering wheel.

Re: 70 Front suspension

Along with a manual steer drag link, you will also need to change Pitman and Idler arms for manual steering. You can still use the 16:1 steering box, or change to the stock manual steering 20:1 (19.9:1).

Re: Bat R-Code 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator

My former, Dearborn 1969 XR7 R code SCJ, was born with disc brakes and manual steering. Disc brakes also called out on the Marti. Mine was a 'Retail' ordered car. No credit $$ for lack of power steering on the window sticker.

Re: Question of the day - How many Hertz XR7-G's exist today?

I think that I inspected all three of the XR7-G's that went over seas to Sweden and Norway. The two cars that went to Sweden were 7 or 9 VIN numbers apart.
