Re: My 69 Standard project making a little progress

It was kind of like Christmas today. My painter finished a load of satin black parts. This batch was mostly accessory brackets, motor mounts and other underhood and nearby bits like the vacuum tank & brackets and front bumper brackets. I drop them off blasted and he paints them in between his other ...

Re: Best grip/handling 15" tires?

93RGTE, While I am not a fan of 18"+ wheels on vintage cars. I like 16" or 17" wheels on our cars in the right design. By right design I mean a vintage style wheel, Torque Thrust, Cobra, Minilite, etc. It really is the only way to get any kind of performance tire other than drag radials. I wanted to...

Re: Best grip/handling 15" tires?

Thanks for the idea Allan68. Those are very nice looking but one of my friends has those on a '68 Fastback plus I had my heart set on Vintage Wheel Works 45's. The set of 4 custom offset versions are $1800 plus shipping. I checked Mustangs Unlimited's price on these wheels. They were cheaper at $168...

Re: Best grip/handling 15" tires?

My friend had these wheels on a '65 Mustang fastback for the last 10-12 years but he kept them super nice.

Re: Best grip/handling 15" tires?

The deal on these wheels was far too good to pass up. I got all 4 mint 15x7 Torque Thrust D's with OK tires & lugs for $200, less than 1/2 I would have to pay for a single 17" wheel.

Re: Best grip/handling 15" tires?

I agree, you would think there would be some reasonable 15" tires out there but I don't think there are any. Plus sizing was my original plan but you know how projects go, the money gets spent faster than you planned. I simply don't have $2.5k for 17" wheels & tires + another 2.5k for big brakes. I ...

Best grip/handling 15" tires?

The budget for my Cougar project has been pretty well exhausted so the 17x8 & 17x9 wheels I really wanted are out of the question. I did pick up some nice second hand 15x7 wheels but they have very old tires. I need to replace them reasonably economically. All I seem to be able to find are BFG Radia...

Better late than never

I bought my current Cougar back in June 2012 after I sold off my '68 GTO. I wanted to build a modified car and I couldn't bring myself to change the GTO, so off it went. My son found this car on Craigslist, and we looked at it and bought it the same day. It was a one owner 16K mile car that had been...

Re: went to the track

Way back in the day ('78), my '69 XR7 with a mild cam, Offy Dual Port intake, 600cfm Holley, cheap headers, FMX and a 3.00 open rear end would run 15.0 @ 95mph all day. When I sold it to my friend he put a 4.11 gear in it and it was a beast. 15.2 @87 seems a little off especially with a 3.90 gear.
