800|500|2019|5984.jpg The Perfect Match Some things seem meant to happen. On October 31st, Halloween day in 1966, David Siedchaglag was born. The very next day, November 1st 1966. Ford Motor Company completed the assembly of a new Mercury Cougar in the Dearborn assembly plant. It would be the 16,30...

Re: Carburetor jet sizes...

With a vacuum tree and its three points, distributer, portrd vacuum, and manifold vacuum where and when do these vacuums apply ? The vacuum tree, if I am understanding you correctly, is the thermal switch located in the thermostat housing area. When the engine is at normal operating temp, or cold, ...

Re: Carburetor jet sizes...

With regard to the Chevy article, he really isn't talking about our cars at all. That is to say this forum is dedicated to '67 to '73 Cougars. You just can't generalize between Chevy and Ford... if you doubt it just ask a Chevy guy where cylinder number 1 is located. Our Cougars don't suffer from le...

Re: Carburetor jet sizes...

Ported vacuum and manifold vacuum are essentially equal at all times except at idle. So what we are really talking about is idle quality. Nothing else changes. It is really easy to experiment with this and see what you get with your car. Give it try you won't hurt anything. I have tried it. With a s...

Re: Carburetor jet sizes...

Any pinging is a clue you are not there yet. I like to run more initial advance than the stock specification, up to 15 degrees. However, you can get too much total advance that leads to pinging so you have to back it down. I also check to see how fast the timing is coming in. In my opinion, earlier ...

Re: ‘68 J code 302 complete engine

My son might trade his for a 9" axle with 3.80 or so gears and posi. Complete from intake to pan. Ran good when pulled. One freeze plug was leaking and we were going to put it back in his Cougar when we came a cross a 351 out of a '69 and installed that.

Re: Carburetor jet sizes...

Edelbrock has a tuning guide that shows the combinations of jet and metering rod you need to make the carb leaner or richer. Take what Royce said to heart: get the timing and ignition right first. Then adjust the idle air screws, then you can start changing the rods and jets. My experience with Edel...

xr7g428, that was a heartwarming, well-written, sniffle inspiring story. Well done. Now back to the burnouts. *grin* The girls he was dating inspired more than sniffles. They are all grandmas now LOL! And burns outs are fun in their own right. Of course there is nothing like a 427 or 428 to turn me...
